After 9 years as an athletic and rugby club Kidderminster Harriers were formed in 1886. They became founder members of the Birmingham and District League in 1889 but had to wait until 1938 for their first championship.
They joined the Southern League the following year but war interrupted things and they had to wait until it ended for their first full season. With little success they?rejoined their old league in 1960 and stayed there for another 10 years, before moving back to the Southern League again.
This time the move signalled the beginning of their rise up the football pyramid and in 1983 they entered the Conference. Cup success followed with 2 appearances in the Welsh Cup Final and a trip to Wembley in the Trophy Final in 1987. They drew 0-0 with Burton and won the replay at West Brom's ground to lift the Trophy.
Off the pitch the old Aggborough ground, with the track around the outside of the pitch and the vintage and very cramped wooden stand, was starting to be developed.
2 further trips to Wembley followed in 1991 and 1995, both resulted in defeats but the first, against Wycombe, produced a record gate of 34,842.
After a very close encounter with relegation in 1992 (safety came on the last day at Gateshead) the playing side started to develop in tune with the ground. In 1994 they reached the 5th round of the FA Cup (defeating Birmingham City away) and won the Conference but were denied promotion because their ground development, although completed by the start of the following season was not in time to meet the December deadline of the Conference season.
In 1999 Jan Molby became manager and built the team that would take them into the league the following year. Their league status was fairly short lived and they are now in their third season back in the Conference. However, they are well supported and their ground is excellent by any standards and they remain optimistic at regaining their Division 2 place in the not too distant future.?
