Halifax were founded in 1911 and won their first trophy in the 1914-5
season, the Bradford Hospitals Cup.
They entered the FA Cup for the first time in 1912 and became a
league club in 1921.
Halifax have never really made it to the top of the football tree,
their best ever league season was 1970-71 when they finished 3rd in
the old Division 3.
Halifax are no strangers to Vics having met us first in the 1993-4
season after their relegation to the Conference. Their first spell in
our league lasted 5 years and they rejoined the Conference in 2002,
reaching the play-offs last year by finishing 4th.
They started life in the Yorkshire Combination in 1911 before moving
to the Midland League the following season. Their acceptance into the
league in 1921 also saw them move to their current ground, The Shay.
Alan Ball senior was their manager for 2 years in the late 60', and
older Vics fans may remember him as manager of Nantwich Town for a
while.
Cup competitions have been no kinder to Halifax, either! One must go
back over half a century to see their best ever FA Cup run which
ended in a 5th round home defeat by Spurs in front of a record crowd
of 36,885. In the 73 seasons they have entered the FA Cup they have
won only 55 games.
Liker many other clubs financial problems have beset the club in
recent years and they have struggled to survive. However, perhaps the
worst is over and when the new stand down one side is eventually
completed it will be one of the best grounds in the league.
Greg Young who was on loan at Vics for a while is in their squad.
In September 2007 their main concern has, again, been their perilous
financial position but at the time of writing there appears to be
long term solution with a new consortium ready to take over the club.
