We are relieved that after three weeks of uncertainty the short term future of the club seems to have been secured thus giving time for an attempt to secure its long term future also.
The experience of the club being owned and run by Mr Connett appears to have left many Trust members, and many fans in general, suspicious about anyone coming in from the outside' to take over.
If the consortium is successful in its plans to acquire Northwich Victoria FC, then our football club will be, once again, in the hands of a group of people who are, by their own admission, not currently Northwich fans.
As a result, many fans have expressed the wish for the club to start anew as a supporters' trust run club so that the club truly belongs to the community and we, the fans have control over our future. However, this is not a decision to be taken lightly and should be considered as a last resort, if no other viable options are available.
The Trust board has had a number of frank and positive discussions with the consortium in the last two weeks and has offered to help, in any practical way it can, a transition to the new owners should the purchase go ahead. These talks will continue.
The Trust is in a healthy financial position which, on the one hand, means we can establish a brand new club should the purchase not proceed or, alternatively, we will be in a position to invest in the club in the future, as part of our aim of supporter representation and influence.
We feel that the best way forward is for both sides to proceed cautiously to begin with and to build a sound working relationship.
Our members will be kept fully informed and, being a democratic and transparent organisation, they are safe in the knowledge that no major commitments are possible without their consent via a ballot.
