Vics 2 (McGurk og 15 Allan 42)
York 2 (Brodie 26 McBreen 57)

A pulsating game ended with honours even that allowed York to maintain their unbeaten start but left Vics still without a win. At the end of the day York will have been the more pleased with the outcome while Vics will feel that with a little more luck they could have taken maximum points.
Vics had asserted all the early pressure and a determined challenge by Flynn created an opening for Byrom but his shot was parried wide of goal by Josh Mimms. Flynn was again in the thick of things and from his miscued shot Mullan had a shot blocked before delivering a cross that flashed across the face of goal inviting a definitive final touch from any Vics player. The opening goal followed shortly with a long punt into the heart of the York defence that left a back pedalling McGURK to glance a header over his own advancing keeper and into a vacant net. Ryan Brown should have extended Vics' lead moments later but having been set clear from a clinical three man offensive he broke into the box to angle his shot wide of the mark. Brown again forged forward to cause problems and he cut back for Allan to have a shot blocked out. And so it was particularly ironic that it should be a double error of judgement by Brown that led to the equalising goal. Initially the Vics full back misjudged a cross field pass that fell to Rusk wide on the right but despite having time to recover he allowed the former Vics midfielder to cut inside and wrong foot him before delivering a cut back for BRODIE to score with embarassing ease. The goal seemed to lift the visitors who had previously been second best and only superb saves by Tynan to deny Wilkinson and then McBreen, Farrell having failed to convert an inviting follow up chance, secured parity. Crowell responded with a 35 yard strike that tested Mimms before Tynan had to dash from his area to contend with a long punt forward and his attempted headed clearance glanced to Brodie who could only shoot into the side netting of a vacant goal. Yet Vics continued to move forward with purpose and were rewarded when ALLAN latched onto an indifferent clearance to lift a 25 yard shot over the York keeper.
Having gone into the break ahead, hopes were dashed that Vics might go on to seal a win when York broke incisively from a Vics corner for McBREEN to score with a shot that was deflected inside Tynan's near post. The pace of an enthralling game never waned and only a superb reflex save by Mimms denied Allan from the edge of the box. Allan continued to cause problems for the York defence and looked to have earned a penalty when he drove into the box only to be felled. Yet referee Mr Handley chose to ignore all claims, not the first time that the visitors had benefited from his borderline decisions. More bad news followed for Vics when Richie Sutton was stretchered off to be replaced by Matt Bailey requiring an adjustment to the 3-5-2 system. Fellow substitute Michael Byrne all but produced the winning goal but his pivot from a quality three man move ended with his shot striking the angle to rebound to safety. An already enthralling game built to an exciting climax and Tynan again showed his quality to twice deny Russell. There was still time for Sodje to go close and for Steele to find the side netting at the death.
Vics may have again failed to secure a win but once more showed themselves to be the equal of quality opposition.
