Kettering 2 (Beardsley 72 , Westcarr 81 )
Vics 1 (Byrom 53 )

Vics once again crashed to defeat when in a potentially winning situation. Once they had ceded their lead there was an inevitability about the final outcome as they yet again lacked the strength of character to transform some neat passages of play into concrete points. A long punt into the box almost caught Vics out and Tynan was relieved to hear the whistle for offside to rule out a Wrack "goal". Beardsley got beyond Welch too easily and his pass across the face of goal was thankfully not converted. Byrne flashed a 25 yard shot wide of goal and then Beardsley headed a Seddon cross over the bar when well placed. With the help of a very strong wind behind him Byrne hit a 40 yard free kick that floated onto the top of the bar with Lee Harper struggling. Otherwise the elements were generally enforcing scrappy play.
Vics started the second period in a far more controlled manner by effectiveley maintaining possession. And they were quickly rewarded when neat interplay between Burns and Allan ended with BYROM scoring with a precision 25 yard shot. A similarly slick move ended with a cushioned header from Byrne that set Allan up directly in front of goal but he shot tamely straight at Harper. Byrom forced the keeper into a far more difficult save from 35 yards and all appeared set for that elusive first away win. But defensive frailties again reared their ugly head and after Tynan had blocked a point blank Beardsley header Marna was given far too much time and space down Vics' right flank to set up BEARDSLEY to score from close range. A Welch header looked set to put Northwich back in the lead until Eaden stretched to clear off his goal line. And then more fickle defending proved Vics' undoing. With nine minutes remaining a hopeful long clearance caught in the wind and with Roberts dithering WESTCARR nipped in to score and condemn Northwich to yet another late in the game defeat.
