Grays 2 (Elliott 44 Sloma 67)
Vics 1 (Flynn 85)

Expectations were rightly high following their midweek draw at promotion hopefuls Burton but Vics failed to deliver and eventually lost to, what on face value appeared to be mediocre opposition. The early omens looked good and Vics dominted the early stages without producing a threatening outcome. As it was Sloma posed the first threat with a shot that was deflected wide. Byrom had a long range shot that was also deflected wide and then a slick four man move ended with Mullan producing a teasing cross that the home keeper could only palm onto the roof of his net and from the corner kick Roberts headed narrowly wide. Mullan exhibited pace to break and his shot fizzed inches over the bar.Byrom had a shot saved at the foot of the post as Vics continued to dominate. But an untimely injury to Michael Welch changed the face of the game and suddenly Vics looked unconfortable at the back and two superb defensive blocks from Roberts denied strikes before former Vics midfielder ELLIOTT collected the ball 25 yards from goal to deliver a shot that was too good for Tynan.
Northich's former assurance continued to deteriate after the break and they were indebted to a goal line clearance from Brown to keep them in the game. Stamp scooped a far post cross over the bar and then Williams wasted a golden chance to get his team back on level terms but with ample time and space he shot wide of a gaping goal. And Vics were soon made to pay when another long range shot found its way into the net to register a debut goal for
SLOMA. And the same player ought to have added a third following indifferent defending from substitute Bailey but his shot was wide of an inviting target.
With five minutes remaining FLYNN had an intial header turned over the bar by Arnold before the same player rose to head the resultant corner kick into the far corner. A subsequent attempt at a grandstand finish proved fruitless leaving Vics travelling fans especially frustrated.
