FA Cup 4th Qualifying Round
Vics 1 (Roberts 10)
AFC Telford 0
Abandoned at half time due to floodlight failure.
Not for the first time what has happened "off field" has had a disproportianate effect on what happens "on field".
On this occassion "floodlight failure" resulted in the early curtailment of an FA Cup tie that surely deserved a more satisfactory conclusion. The players, supporters, with particular regard for the several hundred Telford fans, deserved far better. The background and management of todays events will surely be investigated. Whatever that outcome Northwich Victoria must again have shown themselves to be incompetant in terms of meeting the needs of their own supporters, visiting supporters and their playing staff.
The events of the tie seem almost insignificant but Telford had a chance to take an early lead but a weak Andy Brown finish was easily saved by Tynan. Vics won a corner down the left and the kick by Winn was inadequately cleared leaving Crowell to have a shot blocked and then a follow up cleared off the line before ROBERTS scored from close range. A passage of keenly contested but uninspired play ended with Williams curling a shot wide before the players left the field for a break from which they would ultimately not return.
