Vics 1 v 0 Oxford
A turn around in the clubs fortunes was further nurtured with another home win that will allow a growing degree of optimism that may yet end with maintaining their place in the top flight of semi-professional football.
If ever Vics fans needed to see the determination and team spirit that may yet turn this season around then they ought to have been at the Victoria Stadium today.
Vics were seldom second best and more often than not showed the better quality in a very keenly fought game.
With both teams determined to obtain a result this was always going to be a tight and tense affair and after Matt Green almost opened the scoring in the opening minutes it was virtually 20 minutes before Lucas Akins produced the next best opportunity with a clever turn but less impressive shot that Turley comfortably saved. But again Akins impressively worked an opening for STEELE to accomplishly turn his marker and deliver the precisist of finishes into the bottom corner.
The second half remained equally committed and a single goal may have changed the face of things. As it was goalmouth action was restricted, and from Vics point of view much of that was down to the qualities exhibited by Welch, Kerr and Tynan.
A moment of drama may have added to the entertainment and had possible implications when Alex Jeannin and Richard Battersby clashed leading to both' players dismissals but that never proved to be the case and despite a very late attempt from the visitors to reduce the arrears few would argue with the final result.
Attendance: 911
