VICS 4 v 0 Stafford Michael Byrne gave Vics the start that they required when he cut inside to curl his 25-yard shot inside the post to register their first home Conference National goal of the season. The same player, who continues to progress impressively, almost set up Townson but his shot failed to find the target before skipper Elliott had a shot deflected wide as Vics quickly began to dominate proceedings. Townson shot high and wide before a Grayson header brought about a rare save from the virtually redundant Senior. With Vics in command a second goal became almost inevitable and when Carr surged forward to set up Townson the best efforts of keeper Danny Alcock were not enough to prevent Paul Brayson from following up to force the ball over the line. Brian Quailey ought to have reduced the arrears on the stroke of half time but he failed to convert from barely 7 yards out. That appeared to sum up the visitors night and they could have easily fell further behind three minutes into the second half but a Steve Payne attempt slid inches wide of the goal. Nevertheless a third goal was not long in coming and it was again Michael Byrne who was the provider with a clinical half volley at the far post from a calculated Mayman cross. Vics were now cruising and a fourth goal looked inevitable and when Alcock failed to deal with a Byrne cross Townson was on hand to complete what had become a rout with another clinical finish.
