With 200 - 250 York fans making the trip to Wincham there was a good atmosphere as Vics tried to get back to winning ways at home.
We had the better chances in an even first half but failed to take them. There were early chances for Charnock and Byrne, the latter being the easier one from which he should probably have done better. York then showed their attacking play with Donaldson having a point blank header saved by Senior, before Mayman set up a chance for Elliott but he fired wide from the edge of the box.
The direction of the first half was really decided on the half hour when Brayson went clear one on one with keeper Evans but fired straight at him. From the break York went down the right and the ensuing cross saw Donaldson make no mistake. From nearly being one goal up they found themselves one goal down. 3 minutes later Brayson had the chance to atone for his miss when he went clear again but, as before, shot straight at Evans.
Vics got just what they needed at the start of the second half when Charnock was on hand to score from 8 yds after keeper Evans had failed to hold a low free kick from Byrne and his defence couldn't clear.
The game became quite open with McGurk denying Allan a chance with a great tackle before York threatened first with a free kick on the edge of the area and then Farrell broke but couldn't find Donaldson who was well placed to finish. Mayman fired a good long range shot narrowly wide from the left.
Vics brought on Townson for Brayson on 29 mins and he was barely on the pitch before Farrell headed against the top of the bar for York. As the game went into the last 15 mins both teams looked capable of winning and Vics brought on Sale for Byrne. However the game seemed to be fizzling out until York won a free kick right on 90 mins and Peat was there to head home. Moore went close to making it 3 deep into injury time with a 35yd shot that was inches wide with Senior beaten.
Overall this wasn't a bad display from Vics but it was the old trouble of not taking chances and with hindsight the late substitution did little to help. Steve Burr can take some positives from this game but, sadly, no points.
My man of the match - Keiron Charnock.
