Vics defeat Exeter at the VS PDF Print E-mail
Sunday, 11 March 2007

Tuesday 20th March 2007
Vics 1 (Carr pen 77)
Exeter 0

Tonight Vics provided the ideal disciplined team performance that went a long way to ensure that they will remain in the top flight of non-league football.
Much of the game saw two evenly matched teams strive to create a winning opportunity without compromising their determination not to concede valuable points.

Griffiths was denied an early goal when his header was saved by Jones and then a Carr header from a quality Smart cross cleared the bar by inches.
Yet the contest remained so tightly contested that opportunities remained at a premium and Shaw heading wide of the near post and Roca having a measured cross headed behind before Colzic shot wide when well placed proved to be the only indications of a goal until Vics grabbed a 77th minute decisive opening, and ultimately winning, strike. A measured Vics build up was carried on by Roca and he delivered a quality cross that was handled inside the box by Richardson. Fittingly it was Man of the Match Michael CARR who stepped up to score from the penalty spot.
Exeter finally began to show a degree of passion that had been previously lacking and eventually forced Connett into action but he did well to keep out a Billy Jones free kick before producing the saved of the day from a Stansfield close range header.
Otherwise Vics defended their lead with aplomb to claim three deserved points.
