Cheshire Senior Cup
VICS 5 v 0 ALSAGER
In a game that never tested Vics, Townson grabbed the first goal after only 8 minutes heading in a corner, won from the second of 2 successive saves. The only early threat from Alsager being a Tulloch header that was saved by Senior. McGing pushed a 25 yard shot from Byrne around the post before Vics went 2 up. McCarthy broke up an Alsager attack and played the ball out to Mayman, his far post cross was well controlled by Byrne before he fired in. Any hopes of Alsager making a game of it ended 3 minutes later when a poor clearance fell to Elliott and he shot home from 25 yards.
Vics brought on Roca and Barwick at half time and threatened to run riot with 2 further goals on 50 and 51 minutes. A defender gifted the ball to Townson on the edge of the box and he scored easily and a minute later Roca got possession on the left cut inside and slotted into the far corner.
With the game now little more than a training session Brayson replaced Byrne and Roca beat 2 men before setting up Barwick whose shot was well saved. With Phil Senior almost surplus to requirements at the back, Roca saw another 25yard effort just go wide and Sale had a header blocked on the line at the death.
An easy victory against a poor team hopelessly outclassed from which it was impossible to learn anything. However, a win is a win and it may go some way to restoring Vics confidence and reminding them where the goal is!
