Peter Grimes reports on the FA Trophy draw at the VS VICS (0)1 Allan 53 WOKING (1)2 Selley (pen) 40 Ferguson 110 Att 888 Roca Battersby (Allan h/t) Devlin (Byrne h/t) Elliott Carr Mayman Chapman Handyside (Garner 97) Payne McCarthy Rogers Subs not used Connett, Gaghan Vics cup luck finally ran out tonight when they lost a closely fought to Woking through a dreadful defensive mix up 20 mins into extra time. It was a much more exciting and open game than Saturdays encounter and it ebbed and flowed throughout. Woking started well and created chances from the off. Ferguson saw his 2nd min shot turned round the post by Rogers, 2 corners followed then Evans had a shot saved. Selley got in another goos shot that was blocked wide for another corner and top scorere Richards saw Rogers parry his shot as well. By mid way through the first half Vics were finally getting into the game but the starting line up that took up where they left off on Saturday whilst looking solid wsas n ot creating enough danger. What danger there wass tended to come from crosses and Carr narrowly headed over a Roca cross. However Woking came back strongly before half time and looked a more effective threat with Richards leading their attack. They forced their 5th corner 5 mins before the break and from the second cross in there was a clear hand ball to concede a penalty. A Vics arm definitely moved as the ball m oved towards the shoulder and after a brief pause the penalty was given and SELLEY made no mistake low into the corner.
Steve Burr replaced devlin and Battersby with Allan and Byrne at half time and Vics looked far more dangerous. The reward came on 53 mins with a lovely goal from Jonny Allan. An Elliott free kick from the left saws Jonny turn and volley into the far corner from 18 yds. For 10 mins Woking were rocking and Jalal made three excellent saves, none of which he could hold, within 10 secs from Chapman, Allan and Elliott. Vics threw everything at Woking but gradually the visitors regained their composure and as it turned out that brief flourish from Vics was the last time they came really close. They continued to dominate until half time but couldn't get that final shot on target and jalal dealt comfortably with what came at him. In extra time Vics began to look tired and neither side dominated as the dreaded "fear factor" crept in with both sides opting for safety and more of the long ball. The best chance fell to Richards who headed over a Ferguson cross when well placed until the winning goal came at a time when penalties were looking certain. A long seemingly harmless ball was played towards the Vics penalty area and a complete breakdown of communication between Payne and Rogers saw Ferguson nip in between both and turn the ball in off a post. In a good game it was a shame that either side had to lose with a goal like that but credit to Ferguson for chasing what looked like a hopeless cause. Woking controlled the last 10 mins and Vics cup dreams ended for another season. Official man of the match - Michael Carr
