FA Trophy Semi Final
Vics 3 (Shaw 11 Roca 14 Carr pen 90)
Kidderminster 2 (Creighton 25 Penn 69)

A spirited and commendable effort from Steve Burr's men marginally failed to win Vics a place in the FA Trophy final. Yet the prospects appeared so different when they gamely wiped out a first leg two goal deficit inside the opening 14 minutes.
Connett had twice done well to keep out a brace of early attempts by Constable while Roca had gone close with a crisp shot from a Shaw knockdown. But the script for what was to prove to be an enthralling and exciting contest was initially laid down by SHAW with a well placed drive from 10 yards that opened the scoring. An ensuing drama was ensured when ROCA latched onto an attempted headed clearance from the under pressure Kiddy keeper to lash a 35 yard shot into an unguarded net. The game was now all square and all to play for. Play switched from end to end before the first of a couple of controversial decisions from referee Mr Laws, that ultimately had a significant effect on the final outcome of the tie, played a major part in the first of the Kidderminster goals. Jon McCarthy was left poleaxed from a clash of heads just inside the Vics box yet the referee allowed play to continue, despite what was clearly a nasty head injury, leaving CREIGHTON to take advantage of the extra space to score with a well placed header from a secondary cross. Moments later McCarthy had to be replaced by Barwick. Brayson gathered a Roberts cross to drive wide before he had another effort saved following more good work from Roca. The entertainment continued with a determined Hurren shrugging off three challenges before setting up Blackwood but his shot was saved by Connett.
Doubtlessly Vics would have settled before the game for a single goal aggregate deficit at the break and minutes into the second period they could, and should, have been on level terms. Roberts set Brayson on a clear run at goal and he was cynically clutched and dragged down by Creighton on his inevitable route to goal. The referee inexplicably chose to punish the offender with no more than a yellow card, a decision that did not reflect the crime, and this leniency was further underlined when the Kiddy defence cleared the resultant free kick. As it was the game continued on the proverbial knife edge. Roca had two attempts saved and Connett kept out a Constable effort before the visitors took advantage of Vics need to plough forward to break and score a second. As a Vics move broke down Kiddy quickly hit a long ball for PENN to outstrip Griffiths and score with a quality finish from the edge of the box.
To their credit Vics refused to surrender their dream and substitute Byrne went desperately close with a well struck free kick before he worked an opening down the left that was only partially cleared to Carr but his return shot was saved by Taylor. Russell remained a threat on the break and forced a late save from Connett before Vics achieved a degree of deserved consolation. Creighton, never far from controversy during this tie, was harshly adjudged to have handled a Byrne cross and from the subsequent spot kick CARR scored from the penalty kick to reflect a scoreline that Vics had undeniably earned.
Sadly it was not enough to overcome the first leg deficit and arguably over the two legs Kidderminster had marginally earned their place in the final.
