Vics 0 v 2 Woking
A current inability to transfer some decent away form to the Victoria Stadium remains a major source of concern and another inept home display has left many home fans puzzled. The game did not get off to the pleasantest of starts with Vics losing veteran defender Gareth Griffiths and Woking having Tom Hutchinson leave play after an unfortunate, but accidental clash of heads. Accordingly play took some time to settle and only a Berquez run into the box that was eventually ended by a superbly timed Charnock challenge gave any indication that a deadlock would be broken.
As the half
drew to its close play did begin to become far more open and a slick
Vics move involving Elliott, Allan and Mayman eventually ended with
Elliott shooting narrowly wide. The visitors response was immediate and
a long ball upfield left the Vics defence floundering and Berquez,
chasing a loose ball and Senior, dashing from his line, crashed
together inside the box leaving the referee to adjudge that the Vics
keeper had impeded the Woking forward. McALLISTER made no mistake from the resultant spot kick.
To
be fair to Woking they continued to work like Trojans to close Vics
down and were able to create opportunities of their own. Senior made
saves from Lambu and Berquez before Carr lifted a Sale knockdown over
the bar. Yet the Vics ought to have gotten back on level terms when a
knock on from a Mayman free kick provided Townson with a gaping goal
but he shot feebly wide. They could have paid a high price five minutes
later but Senior produced a superb save to deny Smith from point blank
range.
With
time running out Vics continued to push forward, albeit with limited
effect, and Woking delivered a late sucker punch when Charnock fouled
the breaking Sankoh just outside the box. BUNCE fired in the free kick and it took sufficient deflection to wrong foot Senior and land in the corner of the net.
