Peter Grimes reports on VICS continued progress in teh FA Trophy:

Another cup-tie where Vics were well worth their victory over Conference National opposition. We started well and nearly went in front after 5 minutes when a clearance hit a defender and put him clear on the right, he played in a hard low cross but keeper Stockdale got his fingertips to it and diverted behind the inrushing Allan who would have had a simple tap in. We had an easier chance on 11 minutes when Allan also went clear down the left and what seemed a simple lob over the advancing keeper ended up as a mis-kick into his arms. We only had to wait seconds, however, as the keepers clearance was played back into the box and Brayson was fouled just inside to give us a penalty. After last Tuesday's miss Allan took the kick, , keeper Stockdale guessed the right direction and flung himself to his right, but so far he dived over the ball!

That stirred a previously ineffectual York into life and from then on they had the lions share of possession until half time. McGurk and Bertos both went close as they attacked down both flanks and centred regularly. Vics, however, never looked less than dangerous off the break with their speed stretching York every time. On 29 minutes Allan again went clear down the left, drew the keeper and beat him before pulling the ball back for Elliott 20 yards out but he completely sliced his shot with the keeper stranded and defenders rushing to cover he line. It was an expensive miss as York equalized the next minute. A great run down the right by the dangerous Connery saw him pull a hard low centre back from the line and Rogers, like Stockdale earlier, got his fingertips to it but only succeeded in making it easy for Bishop who couldn't really miss from 8 yards. York continued to dominate winning 2 more corners and Connery having a shot blocked from 15 yards right in the middle of goal. Vics ability to break quickly got them what turned out to be the winning goal 3 minutes before half time. Battersby broke into the box carrying the ball just inside the line Stockdale came out and upended him to concede a penalty which Allan converted by sending the keeper the wrong way.

The second half was a non-event for any neutrals but fine by Vics! Keeper Stockdale was replaced by Porter at the break and although York ran and tried hard they created very little in the goalmouth and never looked like dominating the play as they had done for 25 minutes in the first half. It was becoming obvious why their first half goal was the first they had scored in 8 hours of football! Vics could have had a couple more on the break. Another Allan run saw a cross to Brayson whose shot was blocked and then what would have been a perfect goal to wrap it up on 80 minutes saw Vics break quickly from defence with a crisp four-man move and an excellent cross from Brayson was hit over the bar by Roca when it seemed easier to simply plant a header into the net!
Nevertheless a good win and another good team effort.
