Wednesday 25th April 2007
Vics 0 v 0 Stevenage

The ideal ending to this season's home campaign would have been an emphatic home win, but that did not happen and the faithful 500 who attended had to settle for a hard fought draw.
As a spectacle the game took some time to get going and the only quality move of the first half was initiated by Vics from which Smart rapped the bar with a shot that was the culmination of a measured four man move.

But the game began to open out quickly after the break and McMahon went close from the earliest of breaks. Brown responded for Vics with a solid challenge that was seized upon by Byrne and he switched play to enable Battersby to deliver a cross from which Dean headed onto the roof of the net. Dobson hooked a shot wide for Borough before an incisive pass from Byrne appeared to have set up Brayson but his shot was saved by Julian.

Chris Williams continued his rehabilitation and replaced Shaw as Vics continued to push for their first goal in five games. Dean went close following more good work from Byrne, who again took the eye from a central but attacking midfield role. McMahon furthered undermined the growing intensity of the contest with a free kick from 30 yards that hit the bar.

Charnock was inches away from connecting from a short corner at the far post before Dean and Williams worked an opening for Man of the Match Byrne but Julian was equal to his shot. Roberts ventured forward to have a shot deflected wide shortly before he and the outstanding Kieran Charnock combined together to put an end to a threatening Borough last ditch raid.

The Vics players and management were rightly given an ovation from the home fans for this terms efforts and now it is on to Woking to finally bring a closure to the season.

Attendance: 515
Man of the Match: Michael Byrne
