VICS 8 v 0 HEDNESFORD
Vics fans have waited for weeks for things to get better but I don't think anyone expected the floodgates to open quite so dramatically!
Vics attacked from the kick off and only had to wait 4 minutes to go ahead when Byrne crossed from the left and Sale headed powerfully towards the corner and the keeper could only help it in. Just after the quarter hour it was 2-0 when poor Hednesford defending left Brayson in acres of space near the edge of the area, his shot was only parried by the keeper and Byrne, running in from the left, side footed home the loose ball. After that Vics coasted comfortably to half time and dominated without seriously threatening to increase their lead.
Hednesford briefly looked more positive at the start of the second half and had one shot narrowly wide and then saw Rogers dive to concede a corner off a second. The game was put beyond doubt on 56 minutes when Carr set Brayson free in his own half, he carried it into the Hednesford area, beat the only defender keeping up with him and put it in the far corner. From then on it was a massacre! Hednesford looked slow in thinking and slow in pace and Vics took them apart. Sale played a quick ball forward towards Brayson, 2 yards offside, but he thought quickly and made no attempt to play it and Byrne spotted his chance, ran through and picked up the ball and skilfully chipped the keeper. Sale was injured in the move and replaced by Williams. On 71 minutes it was 5-0. Carr played it right to Williams who passed it to Mayman on the edge of the area; he controlled it with little time or space and put his shot beyond the keeper's dive. 2 minutes later Carr outpaced his marker on the right slid in a low pass and Williams confidently side footed home number 7, and for Vics fans with a long memory the revenge for that thrashing at Hednesford some years ago, saw Williams score a carbon copy goal with Byrne supplying the low cross on this occasion. Seconds after the tannoy had announced Byrne as man of the match Williams played in yet another low cross from the right and Byrne completed his hat trick with a simple tap in.
