Peter Grimes reports on VICS win against Worksop: VICS 4 v 1 WORKSOP Vics could not have wished for a poorer team to play than Worksop in their attempt to get the season back on track. Frankly, they were awful showing little inclination to attack, uncertain defending and a poor midfield. Having said that Vics could only beat the opposition on the pitch and they did it far more comprehensively than 4-1 suggests. Vics totally dominated the first half when it came to possession but created little in front of goal for the first 20 minutes despite that superiority. However, a goal seemed inevitable and the attacks gradually looked more dangerous and after they won their first 2 corners on 20 and 22 minutes and Allan had fired the first real shot high and wide they finally went in front on 25 minutes. Brayson got the ball to the goal line and pulled it back for Allan but he completely missed his kick and the ball rolled behind him where Carr made no doubt with a shot into the roof of the net. Vics domination continued but they hardly troubled the keeper apart from a good save at the feet of Byrne. In the second half Vics domination of possession produced chances galore and it was always a case of how many rather than if. Brayson, Byrne and Allan all went close in the opening 2 minutes and Byrne made it 2-0 after 5 minutes when a poor clearance fell to him and he curled a shot just inside the far post. On 56 minutes a poor Worksop side was reduced to 10 men when Simpkins was given a straight red after an altercation with Brayson. The game became even more one sided and Brayson went close twice before Mayman, following up, put in the rebound after a Sale shot came back off the post. A minute later Allan threaded the ball through the middle to Brayson who was one on one with the keeper and confidently chipped the ball over him. Vics coasted after that but it still came as a surprise that Worksop scored. A long clearance from defence saw Owers chase the ball, just beat Rogers to it and as it ran loose he only had to turn it into the empty net. Attendance: 579.
