Peter Wilson reports on VICS second 3 0 win in a week: Vics 3 v 0 Harrogate Vics completed a comprehensive eleventh consecutive league victory against worthy play off contenders Harrogate Town that turned out to extend their lead at the top of the table to 4 points. Brayson wasted the earliest of opportunities to put his team in the driving seat by shooting weakly into the arms of the keeper when set clear on goal. The same player then repeated the act when well placed to sew the seeds of doubts as to whether this was to be both his or Vics day. Ben Jones extracted a first save from Rogers before Williams combined with Carr to force a brave save from Anyon. In a lively and entertaining game that belied the difficult windy conditions Stoneman had a shot cleared off the Vics line and Lally saw a 20-yard shot clear the Vics bar by inches. Vics replied with another Brayson attempt failing to find the target from another promising situation and then the inventive Williams almost set up Carr, having weaved his way beyond three players and into the box, but the keeper bravely saved at the feat of Carr to ensure that both teams entered the break on level terms. In reality, with a very strong wind at their backs, Vics took almost total command of the second half. And when WILLIAMS latched cleverly onto a long through ball to lift a lob over the exposed keeper it was as much a relief as it was an impending certainty. The game had only one realistic outcome now and few of the thousand plus crowd could have been surprised when a typically well-worked move ended with BYRNE scoring from close range. Vics were finally able to relax and able to continue to dominate and when Byrne and Williams combined cleverly to set up BRAYSON he was finally able to atone for his earlier misses by adding a third goal. Make no mistake; this was not only an emphatic win against decent opponents but also another important step toward achieving a league title that no other Vics team has been able to accomplish for 50 years.
