NAME: Lee Steele
POSITION: Forward
DATE OF BIRTH: 2 December 1973 PLACE: Liverpool
MARITAL STATUS: Married with two children.
PREVIOUS CLUBS: All his schoolboy ambitions had been focussed on becoming a professional golfer but when he left school he found that he was "just not good enough". He then trained as a bricklayer and played local football. He was spotted by John Williams playing for Bootle and signed for Vics in April 1996. He scored his first goal for the club at Runcorn, helping Vics to a 4-3 win before two days later scoring a hat trick at Stalybridge Celtic that led to a 5-1 win before scoring his fifth goal within four days in a 3-0 win against Woking. He was snapped up by Shrewsbury in 1997 before going on to play for Brighton, Oxford, Leyton Orient and Chester before finally returning "home" to Vics for the start of the 2007/8 season.
HIS PERSONAL BEST MOMENTS OF HIS CAREER: While playing for Leyton Orient he scored a 94th minute winner against his former club Oxford United that meant Orient won promotion on the final day of the season while Oxford were relegated to the Conference. Winning two championships in succession with Brighton.
HIS PERSONAL WORST MOMENT: Every day he spent at Chester City; he says "it just didn't work for me".
THE MOST IMPORTANT GOAL HE HAS SCORED: As well as the Orient goal he scored a stoppage time winner for Brighton against Bristol City that sealed the league title for his club...although he admits it was "miles offside".
THE BIGGEST INFLUENCE ON HIS CAREER: His dad. He says he has fell out with all the managers he has worked under.
WHO DOES HE RATE AS HIS MOST DIFFICULT OPPONENT: He says Andy Crosby, a tough and uncompromising defender who is currently Assistant
Manager at Scunthorpe, was always difficult to get around. While former Orient team mate Gaby Zakuani would run right through you taking a few lumps on the way in training.
THE PLAYER(S) WHO HE MOST ADMIRES: Dean Windass. "What he has achieved and is still achieving is unbelievable".
THE LOUDEST MANAGER(S) HE HAS PLAYED UNDER: Dino Maamria by a mile.
WHICH TEAM DOES HE SUPPORT: Liverpool
WHO ARE HIS BEST FRIENDS IN FOOTBALL: Former Oxford team mate Dave Savage. Lee and the former Millwall and Irish International midfielder are still in regular contact.
WHAT OTHER SPORTS DOES HE PLAY: Golf (a lot better than Scott Tynan does).
HOBBIES: Taking his two children swimming.
MUSIC: He has catholic tastes that range from Coldplay, Outcast to dance music. The last cd he bought was Coldplay's latest "Viva la Viva".
WHAT WOULD HE HAVE BEEN HAD HE NOT BEEN A FOOTBALLER: Although he became a bricklayer on leaving school he believes he would have moved
into something to do with sport given that he is currently a Personal Trainer. He plans to continue to develop his coaching skills toward a future career option.
